Children and Dentists - How you can help put them at ease!

Your child may be nervous visiting the dentist because they have experienced pain or a negative experience at a previous visit. When you are going to take your child to the dentist, it is important that you are there with them every step of the way.

Children often feel apprehensive when visiting the dentist, but there are some things you can do to help them leading up to visiting Hogans Road Dental.

  1. Talking to your child about your dental visits and how you’ve handled them. Your stories can have a profound impact on how your child visualises what might happen on the day and is a good way of easing their fears and making it less frightening for them.

  2. You can also read them stories from books or watch cartoons about visiting the dentist that makes it fun and engaging. Here are a couple of books that might come in handy:

On the day you’ll have our full team assisting you and your child and our aim is to make them feel as comfortable as possible. You can even ask our Dentists for some toys or games for your child before their appointment starts so they are more comfortable when they first walk into the dental room.

Feel free to reassure your child by telling them that they are doing well and everything will go smoothly. Don’t worry, our entire team will also be reassuring to your child - we even try to make a few jokes to make them laugh! And before you even know it, the whole appointment will be and dusted!

If you have any specific questions about bringing your child for a dental visit, please give our team a call on (03) 9748 8433. We also have Happy Gas (nitrous oxide) if you child requires sedation during their dental visit.
